Introduction
On this site you can follow
the adventures of the Wickström family during our sailing trip from Split,
Croatia to Dunquerque, France. The sailing crew will be Martin, Emeli, Emma
4-years old and baby Freddi.
The story begins with the
purchase of a boat. After reading several boat reviews from several different
manufacturers, our choice fell on ELAN. This seems to be a good compromise
between cost and quality.

Renovation work to
be done
Oliver has been used in
charter service since April -02 and needs to be renovated before being ready to
host our family. Main work to be done is antifouling painting, new cushions,
installation of holding tanks and engine maintenance. The agent from whom we
bought the boat has promised to help us out with this, below the first picture
of Oliver shows when he is lifted for the antifouling work.

Buying the boat
Searching the web to find this kind of boat led us
down to Croatia. Begining of November 2006 we left Luxembourg to go down to
Croatia and take a closer look on five ELAN 36 as well as some other
interesting boats that could be of interest.
After 4 days of boat hunting, and a short visit to the famous nature park
Krka we went back to Luxembourg with the intention of buying one of the ELAN
36 we had visited.
After signing the contract to buy Doris, we found out that she was already
sold to someone else. Since none of the other 4 visited ELAN 36 where in a
similar condition our choice finally fell on Oliver an ELAN 40.

The trip
The journey has three stages. First stage where the whole family will
attend, starts March 20 in Split, Croatia and ends July 22 in Faro,
Portugal. The second stage will be completed by Martin and his friends,
leaving Faro July 23 and hopefully arriving to Dunkerque, France beginning
of September. More detailed description of these stages can be found by
clicking the buttons above. Clicking the picture button will take you to a
collection of all picture galleries created during the trip. Finally,
clicking on the last button takes you to the blog where you can state your
opinions and tips about our trip or simply say hallo. Feel
